Cristiano Ronaldo was on the bench for most of the game against Liverpool. When warming up, he showed with a short TV appearance that he is obviously quite dissatisfied with the situation.
Cristiano Ronaldo in a Champions League game last year. The superstar wants to play for the title again this season, but that’s not possible with Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was willing to change, sat on the bench for almost the entire season in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
That alone would be news, as it used to be that when Ronaldo is fit, he is in the starting line-up. But that’s not all, because the superstar also caused a stir before the game with a short and bizarre TV appearance.
left out the critics
When soccer players are talking to each other and they don’t want the public to take their words off their lips, they often put their hands over their mouths. Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo apparently didn’t think it was necessary when he came unannounced and briefly into the interview area of pay channel Sky while warming up before Monday’s top game against Liverpool.
Obviously, what was said was not intended for the audience. Because he ignored both the microphone and the moderator David Jones – just like Jamie Carragher standing next to him. Many attribute this to the fact that former Liverpool icon Carragher has repeatedly voiced criticism of Ronaldo in the past. Carragher was still surprised and said of Ronaldo’s behavior: “He just completely ignored me.”
Instead, Ronaldo welcomed his two former teammates and current TV experts Gary Neville and Roy Keane, who were also in the Sky area. In the process, sentences that were difficult to understand but meaningful were exchanged:
Keane asked, “You’re sitting on the bench?”
Ronaldo: “What do you think I should do?”
“To be in the starting XI.”
“I know it.”
Then Ronaldo was gone again.
Does he still change?
Not only Cristiano Ronaldo, but also Harry Maguire were not considered for the starting eleven by coach Erik ten Hag in the top game against Liverpool. After all, the victory proves the Dutch coach was right in his decision.
This should put more pressure on Ronaldo to find a new club before the end of the transfer period – unless he wants to settle for a permanent place on the bench. Ronaldo has long since declared his intention to change as he wants to play in the Champions League. But Manchester United missed out on qualifying last season.
Even if there were and still are many rumors about Ronaldo, including a brief move to Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, there is currently no hot lead to a Champions League participant.
